Danny Buzzer and Emma Pratt are partners in life and in business. They recently purchased The Tanning Centre from the previous owner and are excited to show off their re-branded salon. The salon is clean and inviting, and Emma’s feminine touches are apparent everywhere you look. There are a good range of tanning products to purchase onsite. We caught up with Danny and Emma to learn more about their new venture.

How long have you been trading in Teddington?

E: I have worked at The Tanning Centre for 8 years before Danny and I bought the business from the previous owner in December 2022. It really is new and exciting for us. The Tanning Centre has been on the High Street for 27 years which is a long time in this industry.

What was your vision when you launched?

E: We are passionate about making people feel better in themselves. This isn’t just about the way people look. It's also about how they feel. Many people come to The Tanning Centre to improve skin conditions, to alleviate health conditions such as depression or S.A.D. and to alleviate pain. We would really like to spread the word about safe tanning too. Tanning machines have a bad reputation but technology has come a long way and the newest bulbs don't allow skin to burn.

What makes the business stand out?

D: We have an excellent reputation, our hygiene is impeccable. We are a family run business with staff that can be trusted to provide bespoke advice for each customer's needs. Customers can be reassured that all our staff are trained to work all the equipment and our licences and certification are displayed in the shop.

We give a discount to NHS workers, Students and Local Traders.

Besides your own shop what is your favourite shop in Teddington and why?

D & E: We are big foodies. We love Piazza Firenze, Charm Thai and Islay Coffee which are all on High Street.

What is your guilty pleasure?

D & E: Our pug dog Peggy. She is our pride and joy. It's her birthday at the weekend so we are taking her to Cuppapug in East London which is a special cafe with a ballpit for the dogs to play in. She has a tutu and a tiara especially for her birthday outfit. We‘re really looking forward to it!

Name 3 people alive or dead you would like to have at a dream dinner party.

E: I love Freddie Mercury. He’d be my number one guest. He was such an icon and he was a West London lad.

D: Micky Flannigan, Michael Palin because we love travelling and finally Ben Stoke the cricketer. I really admire his mental strength and leadership skills.

Where in the world would you like to visit if time and money was no object?

E: South Africa on safari. We have already been but I loved it so much I’d definitely go again.

D: South America for me. I’d love to do a tour of Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia.

In no more than three words describe yourself

D: Cheeky, talkative and confident

E: Fun, funny and maternal (Danny added the last word here. Emma was tending to her customers)

What do you see in the future for your business?

D: The dream is to expand to more than one location. To have a chain of shops.

E: We would also like to branch out to offer other beauty and cosmetic services.
