London Health Foods
Vijay Kumar is the owner of London Health Foods, an independent health food shop located on Teddington’s Broad Street. The shop is clean and welcoming, with wooden signs pointing customers to the correct isles and wicker baskets for customer convenience. The ethos is clear with whole foods and dietary alternatives sitting alongside paraben free toiletries and vitamin supplements. Their aim is to look after the well-being of their customers by providing a range of exciting, evolving, great quality, healthy foods, drinks, vitamins and supplements.
We caught up with Vinay to ask him more about this little gem of a shop.
How long have you been trading in Teddington?
London Health Foods has been on this site since 2013. It’s my first and only shop.
What was your vision when you launched?
I have worked in the industry for 20+ years. When I had the opportunity to start my own business I wanted to share my knowledge of the benefits of natural health. My shop not only caters for special diets but also alternative lifestyle choices such as zero waste and clean living.
What makes the business stand out?
We provide the best possible service here at London Health Foods. We have become part of the community which shares ideas and experiences so we can provide the best products. Everything procured for the shop has been carefully selected with our customers in mind. If we don’t have something in stock we are happy to bring in the items the customer requests. We are proud of the feedback we receive.
We also have a generous loyalty scheme. Unlike other businesses, we don’t take personal details for customers to join. Each spend of over £10 merits a stamp on a card. A full card of 10 stamps equals 10% off the customer’s next shop.
What do you love about Teddington?
I feel part of the community in Teddington. We have a wonderful village community that I have become part of over the past 10 years.
Besides your own shop what is your favourite shop in Teddington and why?
This won’t sound good but I don’t really have time to shop in Teddington! I am so busy with the shop and I bring my own vegetarian dinner so I couldn’t answer this one. Sorry!
What is your guilty pleasure?
I love to watch cricket and football. I support Manchester United in football and India/ England in cricket.
What special measures did you put in place for Covid lockdown?
We were able to open during lockdown and we were used as a hub for medications for those who were isolating. I delivered for free in the local area to ensure vulnerable people continued to get their healthcare supplies.
Where in the world would you like to visit if time and money was no object?
I am planning to go to Egypt this year with my wife. It’s not really my dream but my wife’s and I love to keep her happy. I am looking forward to seeing the pyramids.
